A new achievement for AU 13-Nov-2014
Andhra University won NSS award for the national–level for the second year succession. The university was selected for the up-coming university by the Indira Gandhi awards. NSS programme Officer of Presidency College Mr. Adinarayana and the volunteer N. Rahul were selected for the award in the PO and the volunteers categories which is being announced by the Vice Chancellor G.S.N Raju on Monday. Mr. Raju will receive the award from the President Pranab Mukherjee on November 19th at a function held in New Delhi, as this day is also the birth anniversary of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. He will receive cash of 1 lakh as award, the NSS coordinator of the university will receive a medal and merit certificate. As Mr Adinarayana will receive an individual cash award of 20,000 and 70,000 on behalf of the college and Mr. Rahul Paul will receive a cash awards of Rs.15,000.
 
Vizag city as IT hub of the state 13-Nov-2014
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has requested the Union IT ministry to start three premier agencies working under it, the Standard Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate, Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C- DAC) and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), in Visakhaptnam. CM wants to make the Vizag city as IT hub of the state. So, he wanted that these three agencies to start their activities at the port city. The Centre has promised to set up an eletronic hardware park at Kakinada near Visakhapatnam in the Union Budget as the AP government had also sent proposals to declare Vizag as an IT Investment Region. The state government has recommended for 40.4 square km area for ITIR with a total processing area of 4,074 acres and non-processing area of 5,905 acres in Visakhapatnam.
 
Smart Phones to the Night Beat 13-Nov-2014
Active consideration to supply smart phones with Android application and GPS trackers, especially to those who are on night beat said Mr. Murthy. With this system the night beat will be responsible for the movements and also will track him too. At present there are 100 night beat, but to begin with the department need equal number of phones. Efforts are on to acquire the gadgets either from internal allotment or through sponsors.
 
Works remains for Railways, Airport 13-Nov-2014
East Coast Railway of the Waltair Division are back on work with restoration of the K-K lines. The Divisional Railway Manager said that most of the work has been completed, but there is requirement of rakes is being met. Replacement work of roofing sheets on the platforms of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Duvvada railway stations are left and most of the other works have been completed. He said the requirement of roofing sheet is huge, they placed an order and hope to get it in the next 10 to 15 days. Airport All the flights operations to and from Visakhapatnam International Airport have been restored barring the Silk Air flight to Singapore according to Airport Director Mr. C. Pattabhi. He also said, as the glazing work has been started and the roofing agents have also arrived, this time the roofing material will be of higher quality that can withstand speeds of over 250 kph and also empower it to survive future cyclone.
 
Cash Crunch is faced by GVMC 13-Nov-2014
GVMC revenue is hit by the devastating Hudhud. Now it is looking for the immediate assistance of Rs.10 crore to Rs.15 crore from the state government. As it is unable to meet the salary bill of Rs.8 crore and 5 crore towards the electricity, besides GPF, insurances etc. and also has to pay some advance to the heavy machinery deployed from all over the state. GVMC plans to approach high property tax payers to forward the tax subsequently demand notice may take time. So far the government had not released any bills to the contractors within last two months after Hudhud. The estimated total loss is Rs.2, 839 crore, including the damage to the 38,000 houses, municipal school a few hundred which is estimated as Rs.1643 crore, damages of roads, drainage, pump sets ,streetlinghting etc. Taking benefit of crisis unleashed by Hudhud and leveraging a power conservation agreement reached with the Central Government, the government took a snap decision to switch over to LED street light. The entire city, replacing 90,000 lights will time for a month.
 
Demand to change in compensation 13-Nov-2014
The mechanised boat owners have appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to have a relook at GO Ms No.13 issued on 22 listing the compensation to be given to the fishermen for the damage caused to their boats due to the cyclone Hudhud. They said, we are happy for the immediate response by CM for the payment of compensation. But the GO’s will not provide the whole benefit. They will provide only a compensation of Rs.6lakhs, this was said by the Indian Fishery Industries president Y. G. K. Murti on Sunday. President of AP Mechanised Boat Owners Welfare Association and Dolphin Boat Owners Welfare Association P. C. Appa Rao and Ch. Satyanarayana Murthy raised an objection to the Fisheries Department Officials. They said a new boat costs Rs.30lakhs, so the compensation of Rs6lakhs would not help them to buy a new one and they also said to provide income to those lose their income in the aftermath in Hudhud.
 
Support to those affected by Hudhud 13-Nov-2014
A group of a few organizations like the Montfort Social Institute Brother of St Gabriel –Hyderabad Province, Holy Spirit School and some other from Krishna district have come together to those who are affected by the cyclone Hudhud. The former Union Energy Secretary E.A.S. Sarma was the chief guest on the program, who did distribution for the required articles. As part of this relief operation, MSI members said that asbestos cement sheet worth 4lakhs would be distributed to 120 families living in Muslims colony. During this, the Director of MSI Ch. Nagendra, J. R. S. K. Prasad of Holy Spirit School were also present.

Indigo Airlines Hub Soon In Vizag 11-Nov-2014
State Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said that Indigo Airlines had come forward to make Visakhapatnam a hub for their operation. The city will soon grow to be the tourist destinations in near future.They have also said to improve the financial capital, apart from making it a beautiful one on par with Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
