5-mt underground oil storages 02-Feb-2015
India has decided to commission over 5 million tonnes of underground crude oil storages by October to ensure uninterrupted oil supply to the nation for about two months in the case of disruptions in imports from oil producing countries due to geopolitical reasons. The first strategic oil reserve of 1.33 million tonnes will be ready in Visakhapatnam by next month.
A Naval team comprising 40 trainee officers and the personnel of INS Satavahana returned from a cycling expedition and here Friday. The expedition was organised in Kakinada by the Submarine Training School, as a part of its training activities. It was aimed to inculcate the spirit of adventure amongst young officers and sailors who were undergoing submarine training and also educate them on various issues pertaining to environmental and ecological conservation. The expedition was flagged off on January 29 by INS Satavahana’s Commanding Officer Commodore A Srinivas. The team covered 260 km from Visakhapatnam to Maredumilli village in Kakinada district and came back to Vizag. The group also included a medical team, which conducted a medical camp at the Integrated Tribal Development Area (ITDA) Residential School in Maredumilli. As many as 600 villagers were benefited by the camp wherein the team offered free treatment and medicines. Commodore Srinivas said that apart from promoting cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly means of transportation, the expedition also endeavoured to bring about awareness on a host of environmental issues such as global warming. This apart, a clean-up drive was also undertaken by the team.
Death Of Pidaparthi Dakshina Murthy 02-Feb-2015
Author of Pidaparthi vaari Panchangam, one of the popular Telugu almanacs and former HoD of Chemical Engineering of Andhra University College of Engineering Pidaparthi Dakshina Murthy passed away at a corporate hospital in the early hours of Friday. He was 88 and is survived by his wife, a son and four daughters. Booradapeta Pidaparthi vari Panchangam, being compiled and published for the last two centuries by the Pidaparthi family is famous, particularly in the north coastal Andhra. The late Prof. Dakshina Murthy continued the family tradition and was also a good astrologer and Vaasthu expert. Principal of AUCE Ch.V. Ramachandra Murthy paid tributes to the former HoD.
Foundation stone for NIO 02-Feb-2015
Union minister of state for science and technology Y S Choudhary today laid the foundation stone for the regional centre of National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) here. The centre, to be built at Rushikonda on Visakhpatnam-Bheemili beach road, is only the third such facility after Cochin and Mumbai. Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Choudhary said the Centre is according priority to science and research in the country.
IndiGo to introduce direct flight 02-Feb-2015
IndiGo to introduce direct flight from Visakhapatnam to Bengaluru IndiGo will launch a daily direct flight from here to Bengaluru from February 23, 2015. Airport Director C Pattabhi said that flight No.6E647 would leave Visakhapatnam at 8.20p-m and reach Bengaluru at 9.50pm. The incoming flight 6E646 would leave Bengaluru at 6.20pm and arrive here at 7.50pm. Pattabhi said that this would be the second flight of the airline from Vizag to Bengaluru. IndiGo has approached the AAI for operation of another flight from Visakhapatnam to Chennai with effect from March 1, 2015, he said
