No Progress Yet On NIPER Proposed 31-Oct-2016
Delay in establishing National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), premier institute to conduct advanced engineering courses like IITs in Visakhapatnam has caused serious concern among those who invested in pharma units in North Andhra. After announcing sanction of NIPER in Visakhapatnam at the CII Investment Summit held here in January by Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar there is no progress so far. The proposal is gathering dust due to lack of initiative CEO of a multinational pharma company said. NIPER the managements felt is required in the region as the pharma units are facing severe shortage of professionally qualified hands.
Singaporean Navy's Vessel Arrives 31-Oct-2016
The Singaporean navy's stealth frigate RSS Formidable on Sunday arrived at Visakhapatnam on a five-day visit to Eastern Naval Command (ENS) as a part of the ongoing Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercises. The two navies share a long-standing relationship with regular professional interactions which include exchange programmes, staff talks and training courses. Bilateral cooperation between Singapore and India was first formalized when RSN ships began training with Indian Navy in 1994 and this year's edition SIMBEX-16 is being held in the Bay of Bengal region an official release said. Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Khoo Aik Leong Albert RSS Formidable is the first of the six multi-role stealth frigates which forms part of the 185 Squadron based at Changi the release added.
Cracker Shops Shifted to AUEC 29-Oct-2016
Keeping the safety aspect in mind, the district administration has moved the stalls selling fire crackers from the crowded market area to the Andhra University Engineering College grounds. Every year the main fire cracker market would be located near the LIC Building, surrounding the newly inaugurated VUDA Central Park. For the first time we have moved them to an open ground for safety as well as convenience for the buyers and traders and we have asked all the traders to follow all the fire safety measures”, said ACP (East) Annepu Narasimha Murthy.
Children Theatre Getting Final 29-Oct-2016
With several of the works in the final stages, the VUDA Children Theatre is getting ready for inauguration . The work on the ground floor is almost complete but some work on the first floor has to be done. Since some of the work is linked we had to postpone it till beyond November 14. Though it would be in the fitness of things to complete it by the Children's Day and we are confident of doing it we are not taking any chances and want everything to be 100 per cent ready sources said.
Special Train From Vizag to Kollam 29-Oct-2016
A special train will be run, between Visakhapatnam and Kollam, for 32 trips by the East Coast Railway, to clear the extra rush of passengers during the Sabarimala season. Train no. 82855 Visakhapatnam-Kollam bi-weekly Suvidha special train will leave Visakhapatnam on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 11 p.m. from Nov 19 to Jan 11, 2017 and reach Kollam at 3.45 a.m. on Mondays at Fridays. Train no. 82856 Kollam-Visakhapatnam bi-weekly Suvidha special train will leave Kollam on Mondays and Fridays at 5.45 a.m. from Nov 21 to Jan 13 2017 and will reach Visakhapatnam on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. according to a statement issued by the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager M. Yelvender Yadav on Friday.
Children's Theatre To Be Ready 28-Oct-2016
VUDA Children’s Theatre under construction will be ready by November 20 Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao has said. He inspected the construction work with MP K. Haribabu on Thursday. He enquired the progress from VUDA Vice-Chairman T. Baburao Naidu. The two-storied building is being constructed at a cost of Rs.22 crore. The Minister said the first floor would enable holding of competitions for 400 children and the second floor would be a theatre with state-of-the-art lighting and sound.
LIC Vizag Division Tops 28-Oct-2016
Life Insurance Corporation of India Visakhapatnam Division has achieved the distinction of being the first in the South Central Zone and 12th at all-India level to cross the one lakh policy mark according to Senior Divisional Manager K.Murlidhar. The division covers the districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam and has 20 branches and 11 satellite offices. It collected more than Rs.150 crore as first premium income topping the South Central Zone comprising the three states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, Mr. Muralidar said in a press release. The division has completed 1,17,393 policies with a First Premium Income of Rs.152.70 Cr.
Officials Ready To Face Cyclone 27-Oct-2016
The administration is getting ready to face cyclone Kyant and the Eastern Naval Command is on stand-by as rain is expected along with strong winds with a speed of 45 kmph to 55 kmph along the Andhra Pradesh coast from Thursday. Director of Cyclone Warning Centre here K. Ramachandra Rao said light to moderate rains are also expected from Thursday with some places expected to receive heavy showers. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea. At 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday cyclone Kyant was 480 km east southeast of Visakhapatnam and is moving in the west south west direction.
Over 1500 Phones Go Silent 26-Oct-2016
Over 1,500 telephones of BSNL as also phones of other private telecom service providers at Akkayyapalem, Neelamma Vepa Chettu, Leela Mahal and nearby areas went dead on Tuesday as cables were snapped during digging of the roads for construction of culverts. An old culvert near the Masjid at Akkayyapalem was dug up by workers for construction of a new one, perhaps, for widening of the drain and in the process 1200 pair copper cable of BSNL was dug up. The restoration of the telephone connections could take another four days.
Sale Of Tickets For ODI Match Today 25-Oct-2016
Visakhapatnam: Tickets for the fifth and final one-day International match between India and New Zealand to be played at ACA-VDCA Stadium will be sold at 20 e-seva centres from 7 a.m. on Tuesday. One ticket for each person: Joint Collector J.Nivas said a total of 12,000 tickets would be sold and each person would be given only one ticket. The counters will be manned by Revenue employees and those in queues will be issued slips at 6.30 am. Tickets of Rs.400 (2,000 tickers), Rs.1000 (5,900 Tickets), Rs.1500 (2,600 tickets), Rs.2000 (600 tickets), Rs.3000 (600 tickets) and Rs.5000 (300 tickets) denomination will be available.
