Naval Aerobatics Show in vizag 30-Nov-2016
Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju will be the chief guest at the Operational Demonstration of naval ships and aircraft to be held at RK Beach here on December 4 as a part of the Navy Day celebrations. It was on December 4, 1971 that the Missile Boats of the Indian Navy carried out a deadly attack on the Karachi Harbour during the Indo-Pak War. The Navy Day activities would begin with paying homage to service personnel who had made supreme sacrifices in various actions including the 1971 War at a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial on the RK Beach by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, along with a host of other dignitaries.
 
Banks Gear Up For Salary Rush 30-Nov-2016
They pin hopes on arrival of Rs. 500 notes to ease the situation. With banks dispensing less cash than allowed by the RBI and ATMs only Rs. 2000 note, the hardship of people continues. The new Rs. 500 note that could have eased the situation has remained elusive till now. Bankers also see the arrival of Rs. 500 note as much needed relief with the likelihood of a large number of people withdrawing anywhere up to Rs. 25,000 after receiving salaries. Though cash arrivals are expected by all the banks with the all-important first of the month a day away, the quantum appears to be inadequate compared to the requirement.
 
Bandh Evokes Tepid Response 29-Nov-2016
Normal life not affected as banks and offices function as usual. The one day nation wide bandh call given by the Left and a few other Opposition parties, protesting the demonetisation scheme that was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, failed to affect normal life in the city and in the district on Monday. Apart from a few protest rallies and brief dharnas organised by the Opposition parties at some strategic locations such as the Jagadamba Junction and Maddilapalem in the city and Anakapalle, Atchutapuram and Sabbavaram in the district, life was normal. However to prevent untoward incidents the police took into custody leaders of the CPI (M), CPI and the YSR Congress.
 
Picnic Spots Draw Huge Crowds 28-Nov-2016
VISAKHAPATNAM: The tourist and picnic spots in the city and district witnessed huge rush on the last Sunday of the auspicious ‘Karteeka Maasam’ during which families and friends make it a point to spend a day-out together in the shade of trees. The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) attracted the highest-ever number of visitors on a single day. A total of 27,188 people visited the zoo on Sunday and the revenue collections amounted to Rs.5.28 lakh, according to Zoo Curator Vijaya Kumar.

Visakhapatnam: It was occasion for the music lovers and general public to pay not only tributes to Carnatic maestro Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna but also remember the "Vaggeyakara's" knowledge of music, his contribution to music. Union Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu who paid tributes to Balamurali, said the only Vaggeyakara people have seen and listened to was Balamurali, who also made a lot of experiments with music.

Though the government has been announcing various projects, on and off, nothing seems to be happening on the ground. Lammasingi (Lambasingi) in Chintapalli mandal in Visakhapatnam district grabbed the limelight for recording O degree Celsius on a few days during winter and after apples were successfully grown there a few years ago. The temperature is now around 5 degree Celsius.
 
Sabarimala Specials Flagged Off 24-Nov-2016
The first four of the special package buses the APSRTC is operating from here to Sabarimala for the convenience of the Ayyappa devotees were flagged off by Deputy Transport Commissioner Venkateswara Rao and Regional Manager of APSRTC G. Sudhesh Kumar at the Dwaraka Bus Station on Wednesday. Ayyappa devotees performed puja and bhajan before boarding the buses. “Safety and comfort we have ensured in our buses for the devotees in the previous years have brought more response for our special buses Mr. Sudhesh Kumar said.

Smart City Plans Getting Ready 22-Nov-2016
Request for Proposals for various smart city projects for implementation in the area-based development (ABD) approach will be called soon, Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan has said. The proposals would include smart schools, 24x7 water supply public toilets, cycling tracks, bus stops and footpaths, he told reporters in an interaction here on Monday. GVMC has selected an area of around 1700 sq km for development as a part of the smart city project. Stake-holders meeting on development of smart schools in the selected area involving local people, teachers and parents will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
 
Shimmering Lanterns Light Up 21-Nov-2016
The dark sky flickered to life when hundreds of lanterns flew up in the air on Sunday evening. With calming winter breeze blowing in the evening and seashore providing the perfect backdrop, scores of curious denizens came together to take part in the Floating Lanterns Festival held on beach road opposite Aqua Sports Complex. The maiden festival of Times of Vizag, a social group that focuses on updating news about the initiatives taken up in the City of Destiny, saw over 900 people making a wish before floating the sky lanterns.
