Vizag Girl Wins Silver Medal 31-Aug-2016
M.Sahithi Varshini did the city proud by winning silver medal in the National under-9 chess championship for girls at Jalandhar on Tuesday. Sahithi Varshini became the first girl from the region to win the national age group title. secretary of the district chess association Cheela Ramesh said. By finishing runner-up Sahithi Varshini has qualified to play in the World cadet girls under-10 championship to be held in Brasilia in Brazil in August 2017 and the Asian under-10 girls championship 2017. She finished runner-up to B.Savitha Sri of Tamil Nadu after securing 10 out of possible 11 points and remained unbeaten. A third standard student of De Paul’s School, steel plant, Sahithi was initiated into chess two years ago by her father-cum-coach Lokeswara Rao a senior officer with the HPCL and chess player Rama Kumar. District chess association president Anand Kumar and other office-bearers and senior chess players of Visakhapatnam congratulated Sahithi.

Visakhapatnam: There is a necessity for Andhra Pradesh, as a cyclone-prone coastal State, to prepare for disaster and make all efforts to reduce loss of human lives and property to the extent possible, according to State HRD Minister G. Srinivasa Rao. The minister who was speaking at the inaugural of the the three-day national seminar on disaster management named "Prakampana" here on Tuesday. said the very severe cyclone, Hudhud, which hit Visakhapatnam city in 2015 had taught the State many lessons. Learning from the experience we have got ready a state-level disaster response force and trained 600 persons. We are also making efforts to station a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team permanently in Visakhapatnam. The State Government will provide the site and other requisites for the purpose," he said.

Celebrating its fourth anniversary Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation launched a geriatric medical care service on the doorstep in the district on Monday. A vehicle for the purpose was donated by Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) at a cost of Rs.12.73 lakh as part of its CSR initiative. After handing over the keys of the vehicle. Chairman of VPT M.T. Krishna Babu said the initiative will erase the insecurity and apprehensions of the elderly as the new facility aims at providing medical help at their doorstep. Not many senior citizens are not in a position to visit hospitals on their own. Moreover majority of them are a neglected lot and family members consider them a liability especially those belonging to weaker section. The mobile medical service intends to address this issue and provide solace to the elderly says Mr.Krishna Babu.
Microsoft Recruits 25 Students 30-Aug-2016
Visakhapatnam: Although it is yet to be seen whether Vizag turns into a major IT hub or not, but it appears that technology giant Microsoft has hired as many 25 students in the last couple of weeks from the Port City. Sources said the students have been offered a pay package of Rs 10 lakh per annum by Microsoft, which recruited the students from Gitam University and Vignan Vizag Group of Educational Institutions.
Hindi Conference in City 29-Aug-2016
The Fourth International Hindi Conference will be held here from January 6 to 8. The conference, which is being held for the first time outside the USA, will be jointly hosted by the Hindi Sangam Foundation, USA, Loknayak Foundation and GITAM University. Ashok Ojha of the Hindi Sangam Foundation said that the conference aims to create a platform for a dialogue among Hindi scholars and administrators and will open doors for partnership and project collaborations.We are committed to creating a bridge between the Hindi learners and pedagogical experts of USA and teachers and students of Hindi in the non-Hindi speaking part of India and in the world diaspora he said. Visakhapatnam: Local MP Dr K Haribabu said his two years term was successful and satisfactory as many Central projects were envisaged for the district. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the MP, however, found fault with the then UPA government that prepared Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act in which it was stated that the government will only look into the feasibility of setting up a separate railway zone for Andhra Pradesh.

Quality Circle (QC) teams from Visakhapatnam Steel Plant have struck gold at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC-2016) being held in Bangkok from August 23 to 26. The event is organised by the Association of QC Headquarters of Thailand. Three QC and two Kaizen teams brought laurels to RINL by winning gold medals. QC teams meet regularly to find out ways of resolving problems and improving productivity through innovations and cost reduction.
Vizag to Host Major TT Tourney 25-Aug-2016
The District Table Tennis Association is hosting the tournament in association with AP Table Tennis Association and Table Tennis Federation of India. After a gap of 28 years the city is hosting a National-level table tennis tournament. This is also the fist major National ranking tournament after formation of AP. The National (South Zone) ranking tournament will be held at the Port indoor stadium from October 19 to 25. Meanwhile on Wednesday Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao who is also chief patron of the tournament president of VDTTA and MLC M.V.S.
