Vizag Fest 2017 to Begin on Friday 30-Nov-2017
Visakhapatnam: The ten-day Vizag Fest 2017 will begin at the Andhra University College of Engineering grounds on December 1. According to secretary of the festival committee A. Aja Sarma, there will be over 100 book stalls, 150 science projects, government pavilions, cartoon and photo exhibition, literary meetings, screening of short films, commercial stalls, and food courts as part of the festival which will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
VSP: Bacteria high along Shores 29-Nov-2017
Bacterial load or population in the seawater along the shoreline of urban Visakhapatnam is increasing at an alarming rate and there is an urgent need to monitor the coastal water continuously. The shoreline at Hindustan Shipyard and Fishing Harbor were found with the high distribution of bacteria due to the release of raw sewage and high fishing activities. This was found through a research work on the microbial evaluation of seawater at five main stations of the city shoreline by researchers of Andhra University Marine Living Resources. As a part of the study, samples were taken from five stations, namely, Hindustan Shipyard, Fishing Harbor, Rama Krishna Beach, YMCA Beach, Tenneti Park. The study mainly focused only on the bacterial load and their cultural characteristics. The highest distribution of bacteria was observed at station-1 than 2 while the other three stations witnessed least bacteria count, according to the outcome of the study. For enumeration of bacteria, spread plate method was employed. IMViC biochemical tests were conducted to find out bacterial characteristics up to genus level. Reflective microbial loads were identified as Escherichia Coli, Salmonella species, Pseudomonas species and Vibrio species. The result of the present study provides insight into the occurrence of pathogenic bacteria. VISAKHAPATNAM: At a time when the government making tall claims of leaving no stone unturned to promote the heritage sites in the State as the tourist getaways, the Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex appears to have a become a boozers’ paradise.The hilltop heritage site abutting the Rushikonda beach, where the Hinayana Buddhism thrived around 2,000 years ago, now has empty liquor bottles, snacks packet wrappers strewn all over. Visit the site early in the morning on any day, you will find rag pickers roaming around with gunny bags to collect the empty booze bottles. “On a daily basis, I collect more than 50 liquor bottles from Thotlakonda,” a rag picker told this correspondent on Tuesday morning.“Many youngsters organise booze parties here in the night. They light campfires and displaced rocks in the process. They also break the bottles on the rocks after the party. They come in cars and play loud music,” says a worker at the Thotlakonda heritage site on condition of anonymity.Already, the Tourism Department has set up a park with the landscape, sitting arrangements and viewpoints on one side of the hill for tourists. Infrastructure tag to logistics sector boost for AP business. The infrastructure status to logistics sector will largely benefit Andhra Pradesh having good connectivity via sea, road or air and huge scope for logistics business, said AP Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation president G. Sambasiva Rao. The logistics include industrial parks, warehouses, cold storages and transportation. “Andhra Pradesh has six seaports and good road connectivity with the development of the Vizag-Chennai industrial corridor on the card. There are also plans for a Chennai-Bangalore corridor via Krishnapatnam. Moreover, its neighbouring states also depend on Andhra Pradesh for import and export of commodities," he said. When asked how the infrastructure tag will help logistics, the federation president said, “The investment flow will go up. The reason is it will enable the logistics sector to avail infrastructure lending at easier terms with enhanced limits. The railways has also announced partial restoration of the services of 58501/02 passenger between Visakhapatnam-Chimidapalle-Visakhapatnam with one Vistadome, two general class and one second class coach till December 4. The daylong rail-cum-road package would begin at Visakhapatnam Junction by the special tourist coach at 6.50 a.m. daily. Divisional Commercial Manager G. AU All Set For Grand Alumni Meet 28-Nov-2017
VISAKHAPATNAM: Vice-President and alumnus of Andhra University M Venkaiah Naidu is slated to attend the university's third alumni meet as the chief guest on December 9. Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be the guest of honour. Addressing the media about the preparations and schedule on Sunday, HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the university had produced eminent personalities who are at the helm of affairs of various private and public organisations. "Several IAS and IPS officers and other eminent personalities had already agreed to attend the alumni meet," he added. We want to make AU a best-of-class institution by making the alumni an integral part of the university. The AU Alumni Association had already gathered data of about 80,000 alumni and we want to take the number to 1 lakh before the alumni day," the minister said. The meet will start with a 3km walk on RK Beach Road at 6am on December 9 which will be flagged off by the Vice-President. The alumni will gather at their respective departments in the morning, while in the afternoon, they will go around the university where they spent their student days. About 20 buses in different clusters in the university will be arranged to pick up the alumni and drop them at the main venue. The main event will be conducted at the AU Convention Centre from 5pm.

As a step towards curbing the harmful effects of vehicular pollution, GVMC is all set to introduce e rickshaws into the streets of Visakhapatnam. It is a known fact that the pollution in the city is on the rise and the need of the hour is to adopt newer technologies and measures so as to avoid further repercussions. The details These rickshaws have the potential to run for as many as 100 km after being charged for 7 hours. The fact that it just costs around Rs 20 for this specified charge, might encourage many individuals to adopt this mode of transport. Another incentive that is being offered by the officials to promote e-rickshaws is that there would be no need for registration or a license to ride these eco-friendly carriers. It has also been informed that these vehicles will be priced between Rs 1.30 lakh and Rs 1.80 lakh. While some can be used to carry passengers, others can be utilized to transport garbage or goods. In order to spread awareness among the people, some e-rickshaws glided past the beach road recently. Many residents of Visakhapatnam have hailed this move by the GVMC. VMA Annual Festival From Tomorrow 24-Nov-2017
Vocalist Trichur V. Ramachandran to be honoured. The 48th annual festival of music and dance, being organised by Visakha Music Academy (VMA), will be held from Nov 25 to 30. Established in 1969, VMA is doing yeomen service for the promotion of Fine Arts and general and classical forms of music and dance in particular. VMA began conferring its ‘Sageeta Kalaa Saagara’ title in 1971, starting with Padma Vibhushan Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna. It bestowed the title on 58 artistes so far. Vocalist Trichur V. Ramachandran, who has an illustrious career spanning over six decades, will be conferred with the title this year. In addition, a lecture demonstration on 72 Melakarta Ragas composed with lyrics by Swaraveenapani will be conducted on Nov 26. The annual ‘Artist of Distinction Award’ will be presented to Ch. Ramya Kiranmayi, an established vocalist and violinist.

Visakhapatnam: The City of Destiny Visakhapatnam was declared as ninth richest city in the country. The city also registered highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with Rs 2.8 lakh and stood in the first place in the state. In a recent survey conducted by Yahoo India Finance Team, revealed the list of top 10 cities in India in terms of estimated GDP. Visakhapatnam has been declared as the ninth richest city surpassing Surat which stood in 10th place.
