Surgical Unit Opened at Cancer Hosp 30-Jun-2017
The surgical unit of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC) was inaugurated by Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu on the third floor of VPT Golden Jubilee Hospital at Salagramapuram here on Thursday. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Krishna Babu emphasized the need for tackling the major disease of cancer, because of high incidence. He also expressed satisfaction over treatment being extended by Tata Memorial Institute in this regard. Mr. Krishna Babu also assured the community of VPT that it would be very helpful in the near future.
VSP Beach to Receive Tourism Fillip 29-Jun-2017
Plans afoot to develop Mangamaripeta and Yarada. The beaches of Visakhapatnam are set to come alive with water sports, shacks, restaurants and jetties as part of a series of projects being taken up by the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) to make the city a global tourist destination. After opening the beach shacks at Thotlakonda last year the APTDC is planning to develop the beaches of Mangamaripeta and Yarada along the same lines. A team of tourism officials recently visited Yarada, a virgin beach stretch located 15 km from the city to prepare a project plan and estimates for developing the beach with tourist amenities. Nestled between hills on three sides and the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal on one side, Yarada is an ideal weekend spot for a day out.
Route March Held In Visakhapatnam 28-Jun-2017
CG holds interaction programme at fishing harbour. Indian Coast Guard observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, here on Tuesday. As part of the campaign Coast Guard District Headquarters No.6 (AP) organised a route march near Malkapuram area. It also conducted a workshop and community interaction programme at Vizag Fishing Harbour for the benefits of the fisher folk. Coast Guard personnel also distributed pamphlets highlighting the risks of drug abuse to students near Gitam University and Convent Junction. A workshop for officers and personnel was also organised at Coast Guard jetty where Principal Medical Officer of ICGS Vigraha and JM Kishore, Deputy Director, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence delivered lectures. Coast Guard officers and men from various ICG ships attended the programme.
Programme On Annamacharya 28-Jun-2017
Singers from four districts participate. As a part of the TTD’s SVBC channel’s project to popularize kirtanas of saint-composer Tallapaka Annamacharyulu not known to people in general by setting them to music in its prestigious ‘Annamayya Pataki Pattabhishekam’, singers from four districts gathered here. Being directed by noted film director K. Raghavendra Rao and set to music by M.M. Keeravani, around 200 singers right from an eight-year-old gathered at the VUDA Children Arena for the programme titled ‘Visakha tirana Vishnu padarchana’. Nine other music directors are working with Mr. Keeravani in the project. Six of them, including Mr. Vasu Rao, are in the city for the two-day rendering that began Tuesday.
City Celebrates Ramzan With Fervour 27-Jun-2017
A large number of Muslims throng mosques. The sighting of the moon marks the end of the month-long fasting of Muslim brethren across the world. As the moon was viewed on Sunday evening, there were smiles of satisfaction while Muslims ushered in Ramzan on Monday. Greeting ‘Eid Mubarak’ and embracing each another, the devout people visited the mosques and offered special prayers. Application of attar (perfume) and surma (kohl) form a part of the festival celebrations. Dressed in their best, Muslims spent a major part of the day with their family and friends savouring kheer made of vermicelli seasoned with generous portions of dry fruits and relishing biryani.
26 Special Trains to Vizag 26-Jun-2017
South Central Railway (SCR) has announced running of 26 special trains to Visakhapatnam as per the following schedule: Train No.08501 Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Weekly Special Train will depart Visakhapatnam at 23:00 hrs on July 4, 11, 18, 25, and August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and September 5, 12, 19 and 26 (Tuesdays) and arrive Secunderabad at 12:00 hrs on the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 08502 Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam weekly specials will depart Secunderabad at 16:30 hrs on July 5, 12, 19, 26, August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and September 6, 13, 20 and 27 (Wednesdays) and arrive Visakhapatnam at 04:50 hrs on the next day.
3 Day Architecture Interior Show 24-Jun-2017
50 firms showcasing their products. From digital lockers, large-sized tiles, the latest introduction, designer swimming pools to furnishings, the 14th edition of Architecture, Interiors Expo-2017 has them all. Inaugurating the three-day show at Hotel Novotel, Lok Sabha member K. Haribabu said bringing together all construction materials and interior designs would help take up construction in a better manner. The show is being organised by Indian Insitute of Architects (IIA), Visakhapatnam Chapter, in association with the Institute of Indian Interior Designers. Around 50 companies have set up 70 stalls showcasing their products. Architecture students of Andhra University, Varaha College of Architecture and Planning and Planning and Gitam School of Architecture and AU Department of Fine Arts have set up stalls showcasing project work and paintings and sculpture.
All Set For Rath Yatra 24-Jun-2017
The Rath Yatra of Sri Jagannadha Swamy in Town Kotha Road will begin on Sunday. MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar will inaugurate the rath yatra. The chariot will be pulled from the temple to Turner’s Choultry. According to Executive Officer Bandaru Prasad, 15 lakh will be spent on the conduct of the utsavams and making arrangements for devotees. The rath yatra will conclude on July 5 with return rath yatra.

The camp was conducted in association with doctors of Pradhama Hospital. P. Ramesh Babu, senior divisional manager of LIC, inaugurated the camp.

Nooka Sridhar gives a demonstration on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Underwater yoga, a relatively new concept, is fast catching the fancy of children and adults alike, says Nooka Sridhar, a swimming instructor at the Rail Club in Visakhapatnam. He gave a demonstration on the occasion of International Yoga Day at the Rail Club on Wednesday. Barely nine months into the act, Mr. Sridhar has not only perfected the skills but also trained a few children and adults in underwater yoga techniques. Mr. Sridhar, who is also a lifeguard and scuba diving trainer, has been practicing yoga for the last one year.
