Mega Health Camp Held 31-Aug-2017
A free mega checkup camp, conducted by Apollo Hospital, camp was inaugurated by District Judge P.V. Jyothirmayee at the District Court on Wednesday. Regional CEO of Apollo Sandeep Chatrath said the objective of the camp was to fight the epidemic of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD). The focus was detection of hypertension, diabetes, cardiology and neurological problems. Dr.Chatrath explained that Apollo-Visakhapatnam had screened and provided consultations to 700 persons (Judges and Lawyers) at the Bar Association and specialist team of doctors spread awareness on detecting non-communicable disease (NCD). Doctors I. Rajesh Venkat, neurology, Sesha Mohan Debta, general medicine, Naveen Kumar-ENT, Sateesh Babu, surgical gastroenterology, A. Suresh, cardiology and N. Srinivas, medical gastroenterology, were among those who participated.
Telugu Bhasha Dinotstavam Observed 30-Aug-2017
Visakhapatnam: Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam and 'Vyavaharika Bhashodyama Netha’ Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy Pantulu’s 154th birth anniversary was observed on Beach Road here on Tuesday. After garlanding Telugu thalli statue, Collector Pravin Kumar said apart from insisting on usage of Telugu in the government and private offices, the government is giving opportunity to write public service commission exams in Telugu. Dr Migada Ramalinga Swamy and Vedula Subrahmanya Swamy spoke about the uniqueness of Telugu and recalled Gidugu's efforts to spearhead the movement of colloquial Telugu. Students of Bhashyam School and Sri Krishna Vidya Mandir rendered songs on the occasion.
Rains Lash Vizag 30-Aug-2017
Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains lashed the district and surroundings following a low pressure over Odisha and Chattisgarh on Tuesday. The system moved to Madhya Pradesh and a low pressure now spread across East Central Bay of Bengal adjoining north coastal Andhra. The low lying areas in the city were inundated and normal life was affected in the city in the afternoon. The worst hit areas were under One Town and adjoining Poorna Market and Old Bus stand. However, there was no loss to property or life in any part of the district. City received 7 cms of rain, the highest in the season.
Mudasarlova Park To Get A New Look 29-Aug-2017
Existing greenery will not be disturbed, says architect. The refurbishment of the Mudasarlova Park will be aesthetic, artistic and sustainable and create an entirely different park maintaining its ecology, architect Raj Expedith has said. Speaking to reporters after a visit to the park, he said the existing greenery would not be disturbed and the reservoir would be barricaded from the park side to prevent any vandalism. The park will be entirely different with priority for leisure and gardens and in the first phase of refurbishment priority would be given to infrastructure with parking, toilets and solid waste management. While the ecology would be upgraded, maintenance was most important to make it sustainable at least for five years, he said.

Charcoal sketches have won him accolades. Naresh Babu Ayyalasomayajula of Visakhapatnam received the Bharat Gaurav Award, organised by the Bharat Gaurav Awards Foundation, in the ‘Art and Culture’ category, at a function organised jointly by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi recently. Popular as NB among friends and Bobby among many others, a keen interest in art since childhood made him dabble with the brush in different media like water colours and oil paintings. But, that did not last long with education and career taking priority. The latent passion in him was revived while he was doing his Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) at JNTU, Hyderabad. “The creative skills of fine arts students inspired me to sketch portraits of eminent personalities and gift the portraits to them,” he recalled during an interaction with The Hindu at his expo titled ‘Black Magic’, organised by Antarmukha, a society for creative art and culture, recently. The only awardee from South India in the category of art and culture, Bobby has contributed to the art form with over 100 charcoal arts till date. He plans to host an annual all India art exhibition for artists in January 2018.

Minister Launches Tech Hub In Vizag 26-Aug-2017
Lokesh hands over allotment letters to Patra India BPO Services and WNS. IT Minister N. Lokesh on Thursday handed over allotment letters to noted BPOs – Patra India BPO Services and WNS – after launching Tech Hub at the 11-floor new building of Tech Mahindra, which was taken on lease by the AP Electronics and IT Agency (APEITA). The two global BPO firms will get two floors each with a built-up space of over 30,000 sft. WNS, which currently employed 900, will add 1,600 in the new facility, taking its total manpower in the city to 2,500. Patra BPO has at present 1,600 employees, and the new facility, as part of its expansion, will create 800 jobs.

Bank Employees Observe Strike 23-Aug-2017
They are protesting against merger of banks, waiver of corporate loans. Bank employees staged a protest, opposite the Gandhi statue near GVMC on Tuesday, in response to a call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). UFBU convener CAS Prabhakar said the strike was to register their protest against the merger of banks and against waiver of loans given to corporates. The UFBU convener said though the bank employees had toiled hard due to demonetisation of high denomination notes, they were not properly rewarded. NCBE leader N. Sambasiva Rao, AIDEA representative Yugandar and G. Vasudeva Rao of AIBOC were among those who addressed the employees. All India Bank Pensioners and Retirees Confederation Visakhapatnam district vice president KL Rao said pension scheme was introduced in public sector banks in 1995 and since then wages were revised five times. Pension should be revised whenever wages are revised but it was not done even once. Bank pensioners were getting the same pension even after 22 years, he said.
