NIT team visits NAD flyover area 31-Mar-2018
Work will begin on April 2: official Experts from NIT, Warangal, on Friday made a field visit to the NAD area where a flyover will come up. Accompanied by VUDA Vice-Chairman P. Basanth Kumar, NIT Director and expert in civil and structural engineering N.V. Rama Rao, Prof. Prasad (Transport) and Prof. Rajesh (Structural Engineering) visited the flyover area. The entire stretch and markings of piers was examined and a number of valuable suggestions that could be implemented came during the visit. The NIT is vetting the design of the double rotary flyover proposed at NAD. VUDA is insisting on a field visit so as to take up any modification required as it will not be possible to take them up later. The experts will return to Warangal and come back with the necessary modifications in a week. The aspects for which modification are required, fall in Phase II and Phase III of the project. ‘Hence we have decided to go ahead with the project and work will begin on April 2 on one pier,’ the Vice-Chairman said. One aspect that received particular attention was arms of the bridge and the need to have a service road. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the flyover, estimated to cost ₹113 crore, in October last.

CM opens Franklin Templeton Investments office in Vizag. The IT sector in Andhra Pradesh is gathering momentum and Visakhapatnam in particular is bound to emerge as a major fintech hub in the country, according to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. He was speaking here on Thursday after inaugurating the office of Franklin Templeton Investments here on Thursday. He said it was a good sign for the city that a major company, a Fortune 500 company, like Franklin Investments had chosen to set up a centre in the city. "The company will invest Rs 450 crores here gradually on setting up the centre and provide 2,500 high-end jobs. Today it has opened the office," he said. He recalled how the company had first set up the centre in Hyderabad in the united AP way back in 2002 and he expressed confidence that the Vizag centre would be even more successful than the one in Hyderabad. Jennifer M Johnson, the president and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company, said the company had immense faith in the Chief Minister "who is the key architect and visionary CM" who built up the IT sector in Hyderabad and is doing so now in Visakhapatnam. She expressed confidence that the Vizag centre would flourish. RRB staff strike enters Day 2 29-Mar-2018
As a part of the three-day country-wide agitation of regional rural banks, officers and staff of A.P. Grameena Vikas Bank observed strike on second day on Tuesday. They were opposing privatisation of rural banks. The other demands included pension parity with commercial banks, compassionate appointments, computer increment, regularisation of temporary staff, membership in IBA and parity in service rules, according to regional secretary of the Officers’ Association U.R.S.S. Prakash. Over 100 officers and staff participated in a dharna organised at RRB office at Seetammadhara on the first day.

Yachting festival postponed by a day. Chief Minister will inaugurate it at IFR jetty tomorrow The inaugural of the Vizag Yachting Festival has been postponed by a day. The four-day festival will now begin from March 29 and go on till April 1. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will flag off the Vizag Yachting Festival at the new jetty at Harbour Road on March 29. According to E-Factor, the event manager for the festival, a few unforeseen logistical problems faced in transport of yachts had resulted in the delay. Eight yachts will be arriving in batches to Visakhapatnam by March 29. On Wednesday, Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust M.T. Krishna Babu inspected the works of the yachting festival at the new jetty (IFR jetty). He said that VPT was felicitating necessary support for conducting the festival. The chairman further added that all logistical support required for promoting yachting at Visakhapatnam would be extended as per the requirement of the firms coming forward for the festival. The yachts will sail through beaches like Rushikonda, RK Beach, Totlakonda and Yarada Beach while engaging the on-board guests with activities like swimming, fishing and snorkelling. Yachting enthusiasts from Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi are expected to attend the festival.

Vizag to host first-ever yachting festival. The city is set to host the first- ever Vizag Yachting Festival in the State from March 28 to 31, which will see a fleet of nine luxury yachts arrive at the coast promising an exciting line-up of events for adventure seekers. The festival is being organised by Andhra Pradesh Tourism in association with E Factor. Elaborating about the festival, Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya told that the festival is aimed at putting Vizag on top of the marine tourism map. We have set ambitious goals to develop Andhra Pradesh as a tourism destination for every kind of tourists - be it the millennial generation traveller seeking an exciting adventure, a family of four looking for a placid beachside holiday or even the retired pensioner on a quest for some soul searching, she said.

Some temples in city celebrating Sri Rama Navami festival today Grandeur marked the ‘kalyanam’ of Lord Rama and Sita in various temples of the city on Sri Rama Navami day on Sunday. Prior to the celestial wedding, the idols of Lord Rama and Sita were given bath with assorted aromatic liquids and smeared with turmeric paste. Later, the deities were decked up with silk robes and strings of floral garlands in various hues. The grand ‘kalyanam’ included rituals such as placing of jeelakarra-bellam on the head, mutyala talambralu, and kanyadanam. Sounds of bells reverberated Sri Sita Rama Swami temple at Chengalraopeta, one of the oldest in the city, as the festival was celebrated with devotional fervour. On Wednesday, the temple committee plans to conduct ‘Paduka Pattabhisheka Mahotsavam’. An air of festivity pervaded the city as scores of devotees thronged temples to offer prayers and savour panakam (jaggery syrup) and vada pappu (dish made of soaked moong dal). Elaborate arrangements were made at Ramalayam located at Ambikabagh as devotees witnessed Sita Rama kalyanam performed with religious fervour. Jagathi village in Kaviti mandal has high incidence of disease. Indiscriminate use of drugs and antibiotics was seen among Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) patients of Uddanam region in Srikakulam district, according to the speakers at a seminar on “CKDu”, held at Pinnacle Hospitals here on Friday. The seminar was organised by the Visakhapatnam-based Institute of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (IBCB). Former Vice Chancellor of JNTU-K Allam Appa Rao said studies by the institute have revealed high incidence of CKDu at Jagathi village at 46.5 % and at Patha Varaka at 43.5% . Both the villages were located in Kaviti mandal in Srikakulam district. In Uddanam in eight villages, 30 to 40 % of the people were affected, 25 to 30 % were affected in nine villages and more than 18 % of the population was affected in 54 villages. Prof. Appa Rao called for greater research to arrive at the exact cause of the disease. Dr. Satish P. Ramachandra Rao, Director, Centre for Exosome Research, Trans-Disciplinary University, Bengaluru, gave a PowerPoint presentation on urinary exosomes. Triggering factor A post doctoral fellow from CCMB, Hyderabad, Sudhakar opined that there could be genetic predisposition to CKDu. Retail giant Walmart to soon set 22-Mar-2018
Retail giant Walmart to soon set up store in Visakhapatnam. World’s largest retail store by revenue, Walmart, is set to open up its store in Visakhapatnam. The retail giant will soon be commencing its operations from a store in Gajuwaka. The store is expected to come up in the latter half of 2018, it has been learned. We have acquired roughly four acres near Autonagar on lease and will complete the construction in two months with a built-up area of 56,000 sq ft and parking facility for 150 cars,” Walmart India Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Rajneesh Kumar was quoted as saying on Monday. The store, which is at an advanced stage of construction, will generate 2000 direct and indirect jobs, Mr. Kumar said. While most of the products will be comprised of the produces from local farmers and vendors, the store will also have Girijan produced honey and Araku Valley Coffee, The Hindu Business Line reported.
Bharat Ane Nenu Audio Launch 21-Mar-2018
Special plans for Bharat Ane Nenu Audio Launch Superstar Mahesh Babu has been focussed and is working round the clock for his next film Bharat Ane Nenu. Directed by Siva Koratala, the film’s shoot has been planned to be wrapped up by the end of this month. The makers kick-started the promotions recently and the audio release date along with the venue have been finalized recently. Bharat Ane Nenu audio will be unveiled on April 7th in RK Beach, Vizag and the makers already acquired the necessary permissions for the same. Bharat Ane Nenu is said to be a political drama and Mahesh plays a Chief Minister in the film. The makers are keen on erecting an Assembly set for the audio launch and the sketches of the set are being finalized currently. Mahesh was keen on the event happening in Andhra Pradesh after which the makers zeroed in Vizag. A pre-release event will take place in Hyderabad before the film’s release. Devi Sri Prasad is the music composer and DVV Danayya is the producer. Bharat Ane Nenu has been slated for April 20th release.
