Close to 28 contestants have been selected in the second phase of auditions for the Miss Vizag – 2017 beauty pageant. They will take part in the finale scheduled on December 10. The event was organised jointly by Creative Plus Entertainment Network, Rays Entertainments and Dream Events.

Visakhapatnam: Offering both entertainment and knowledge, the new edition of Vizag Fest 2017 kicked off on a grand note at Andhra University Engineering College Grounds here on Friday. Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G Nageswara Rao inaugurated a 10-day fest which is being organised in association with the Department of Culture of Andhra Pradesh. The festival which was thrown open to all at free of charge comprises book exhibition, literary talks, short film shows and science expo with an intention to provide a relief to citizens who got busy with their daily engagements .

GVMC Commissioner inaugurates a short film theatre at the venue. The road leading to the AU College of Engineering (AUCE) exhibition grounds, the venue of Vizag Fest -2017, was chock-a-block with vehicles of various kinds on Sunday evening. The stretch between BRTS main road at Maddilapalem and the exhibition ground was full with motorists parking their vehicles beside the road as the vehicle parking was full. Nonetheless, visitors had a gala time as the exhibition had everything to offer to different age groups. The Abdul Kalam Science Exhibition section witnessed huge crowds. Andhra Medical College (AMC) put up a few stalls on various aspects of health and disease. The stall set up by the Anatomy Department with a few specimens of the skull, its cross section with the brain inside, stages in the formation and growth of the skull was a big draw among students. Boys and girls were bold enough to hold the skull specimens with their hands, as medicos of AMC explained to them about its functions. Young men and women were seen enquiring about various aspects of organ donation at the ‘Jeevan Dan’. The AMC students told them about eye, heart, liver donation and the time within which the organs should be harvested. The stall on diabetes and self-care in diabetes was another big draw with people asking about diet control. There was a stall on blood donation by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and a BMI chart for different age groups.

Competition will be held in four categories -- U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 The Hindu in School Chess Competition 2017 will be held here on December 10 at Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium. The tournament will be held in four categories: under 9 years, under 11, under 13 and under 15 years. The competition follows the Swiss league format under the latest FIDE rapid rules, in order to give every participant a fair chance to win. Hello’s audio to be launched in Visakhapatnam. Actor Akhil Akkineni is all set to greet us with his second film ‘Hello’. The movie, which is being produced by Nagarjuna Akkineni under the banner of Annapurna Studios, is written and directed by Vikram Kumar of ‘Manam’ fame. Apart from starring newcomer Kalyani Priyadarshan as the leading lady, the film’s cast also boasts of some veteran actors such as Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishnan. Vizag: Actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan was accorded a tumultuous welcome at Vizag airport. Thousands of people from surrounding villagers gathered there to have a glimpse of Pawan Kalyan. The youth jostled with one another to welcome the Jana Sena chief. Pawan is in Vizag to extend his support to the protesting Dredging Corporation employees. He will also console the family members of the employee who committed suicide recently. Pawan named Chalo Rey Chalo Rey Chal to his tour and said that it is only to achieve transparency in governance. It may be recalled here that DCI employee Venkatesh committed suicide opposing privatization of the Dredging Corporation and other employees are protesting the move by the government.
