‘Chandanotsavam,’ annual festival of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swami, presiding deity of Simhachalam, will be celebrated on April 18.

Collector Pravin Kumar on Monday held a preliminary review with Executive Officer K. Ramachandra Mohan and officials of various departments concerned.

Since the Governor, Ministers and MPs were expected to visit VVIP, VVIP timings should be earmarked without causing inconvenience to devotees, he told officials.

Arrangements, including transport, water, shade, medical teams and ambulance, should be arranged.

Breaking News: No Visakhapatnam Railway Zone. The Centre once again gave a shock to Andhra Pradesh. The Centre confirmed that, given the current circumstances, Visakhapatnam Railway Zone is not possible. A press note regarding the same has been released by Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary, Dinesh Kumar. ‘According to the report received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Visakhapatnam Railway Zone is not possible,’ said Dinesh Kumar. The latest move comes at a time when the Parliament sessions are being stalled by the TDP MPs ‘AP Special Category Status’ protests. Along with the people of the state, all political parties are protesting against the Centre.Recently, Arun Jaitley has made it clear that Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh cannot be granted. Instead, the Centre is ready to fulfil all the promises made in the AP Reorganization Act 2014. Visakhapatnam Railway Zone will be created, and Visakhapatnam will be made the Headquarters. It will be only possible by the BJP government,’ said the BJP MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju in the AP Assembly recently. APSRTC to provide free travel to the students. VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Pradesh Commissionerate of School Education has introduced 'CSE-SSC-2018' mobile App to help class 10 students locate their examination centres easily. Available on the Google Play store, the App gives the location details of the examination centres and the user can search with the venue/center code or center name. About 55,500 students from Visakhapatnam district will appear in the class 10 examinations, which will start from March 15. District education officer B Lingeswara Reddy informed that about 3,000 invigilators will be deployed to oversee the examination proceedings at 240 centres in the district. "The jumbling system is also applicable to the invigilators from this year. After four examinations at one centre, the invigilators will be transferred to another examination centre in the district. Reddy further added that they have conducted several meetings with the Mandal Education Officers to take stock of the furniture and other amenities available with the exam centres and they directed the officials to procure furniture from the nearby schools if needed. A nurse will be deployed and ORS packets will made available at each examination centre. Lingeswara Reddy informed that 144 section would be imposed at all the examination centres in the district. Former Head of the Department of Telugu of Andhra University Vedula Subrahmanya Sastry on Wednesday released ‘Annamayya Srungara Tarangini’, written by Venkat Garikapati. at a function organised by Public Relations Society of India to mark the 515th death anniversary of saint-composer Tallapaka Annamacharya. The first copy of the book was presented to SBI DGM M.B. Diwakar. PRSI Visakhapatnam chapter D.V.R. Murthy presided . Mr. Subrahmanya Sastry said Mr. Venkat authored the book with fervour. Of the 240 centres, 114 are located in urban areas of the district. On the first day of the SSC examination, the district recorded an attendance of 55,383 from a total registration of 55,493, which is around 99%, here on Thursday. The examination began with first language paper-I and it was held in 240 centres across the district. According to District Education Officer Lingeswar Reddy there was no untoward incident and day one passed off peacefully. The examinations will conclude on March 29. Though the examination began at 9.30 a.m. students were allowed till 10 a.m. Parents were seen accompanying students to the examination centres and the young minds were seen glued to their books till the last minute. There is tension, but we are not worried, as we have prepared well, said Srijana and Sri Lakshmi, from a GVMC school. The district administration has ‘left no stone unturned’ to see that the examination is held peacefully in quality ambience. About 250 ANM nurses were deputed from the health department and at least one nurse with the required emergency medicine was deputed in each centre. Shoba Yatra, cultural show mark Gangaur festival. Prayers offered to Siva, Parvathi Donning traditional attire in eye-catching colours, members of Maheswari Mahila Samiti took out Shoba Yatra from Pandurangapuram temple to Hawa Mahal on Beach Road, marking Gangaur festival on Sunday. The yatra followed by cultural show was supported by Maheswari Sabha, Maheswari Yuva Manch and Marwari Yuva Munch. The festival is celebrated in Rajasthan and various parts of North India. Secretary of Maheswari Mahila Samiti Nisha Periwal said that the festival symbolises the worship of Lord Siva and his consort goddess Gauri (Parvathi). “While married women pray for the longevity of their husbands and healthy married life, unmarried girls offer prayers to be blessed with suitable grooms,” she said.
