Increase in number of students in U.S. taking up Hindi as a foreign language.
It was his sheer love for the language of Hindi which brought Elmar Renner from Germany to India six years ago.
Today he not only has a flawless command over the language but also is an assistant professor of Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu in Copenhagen University in Demark which has seen an increasing interest in learning Hindi as a foreign language among Europeans.
At the New York University’s (NYU) College of Arts and Science this year, around 80 students have enthusiastically taken up a foreign language class with one agenda — mastering the Hindi alphabet. In the U.S., there are a growing number of Westerners who have, in recent years, shown great interest in keeping pace with India’s rising global influence by learning the national language of the country.
