A refreshing list of flavours Posted on 18-Jul-2017
A refreshing list of flavours for chai lovers On a rainy Monday morning, Y. Sai Kumar gets busy filling the glasses to the brim with hot tea and serving them to a host of auto-drivers, shoppers and students who line up for the much- required dose of refreshment at his stall. The clinking of the cups gets louder as the tea-maker sets the transparent containers ready for the customers who wait eagerly to relish the steaming hot chai followed by a mouthful bite of a biscuit dipped in tea. With customised spices and masala powder prepared by the chai-wala, more than 100 flavours are brewed at the tiny outlet located near the Yellamma temple near the Jagadamba junction. Sai Kumar was very young when he learnt the art of making tea at a tiffin outlet located in Kukatpally, Hyderabad. However, he was quick enough to hone his skills and come up with new variants. “I was 13 when I made the first tea for a customer. However, I absorbed the techniques required for the perfect blend quick enough to bring a smile on customer’s face after sipping it,” says the tea-vendor. Unable to find a job suitable, Sai Kumar decided to start his own venture a few years later. His first outlet was set up at Gachibowli, Hyderabad, which turned out to be an instant hit among the locals. “After a decade, I moved to Visakhapatnam so that I can stay close to my parents and relatives,” he told The Hindu. Soon, his outlet — My Favourite Tea — that offers assorted flavours turned into a stopover for severa
