The sands of the city’s coast will stir to life with a grand musical festival featuring some of the country’s most prominent names in the music field on November 11 and 12.

AP Tourism and the district administration will be hosting a two-day ‘Sounds on Sand’ music festival on the beach opposite YMCA. Organised by event management firm E-Factor, the festival will see artistes like Baiju Dharmajan, Usha Uthup, Leslie Lewis and Revanth of Indian Idol fame performing in the city.

Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, district Collector Pravin Kumar said, “The event is not just for entertainment purpose. We plan to make this an annual feature. Our aim is the branding of the events at the national and international level in such a way that people across the globe will wait to be a part of it every year. This will lead to a big growth in the tourism industry of the region.”

‘Sounds on Sand’ will begin with hour-long performances of guitarist and music composer Baiju Dharmajan and singer Vijay Hegde at 7 a.m. on November 11 at the beach venue.

The two-day festival will also provide a platform to local bands and artistes to showcase their talent.
Research Unit Inaugurated At KGH Posted on 11-Nov-2017
A Multi-Disciplinary Research Unit (MRU) sanctioned for Andhra Medical College (AMC) was inaugurated by King George Hospital (KGH) superintendent G. Arjuna at the old neurosurgery ward of the hospital here on Friday. AMC principal P.V. Sudhakar, professor and HOD of pathology A. Bhagyalakshmi, KGH deputy superintendents K. Varaprasad and V. Dharma Rao and others were present. Dr. Bhagyalakshmi said that the Rs. 5.25-crore MRU project was funded by the Government of India. The objective of the project was to strengthen research.

Navy Marathon A Runaway Hit Posted on 13-Nov-2017
Runners throng Beach Road in city to take part in the event. A mix of more than 12,000 professional and amateur runners headed to Beach Road on Sunday much before the dawn to show their dedication towards fitness and join hands for the fourth edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon – 2017. Featured by the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) to mark its golden jubilee, the marathon was held in four categories -- full (42.2 km), half (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km. starting from 4.15 a.m. Dressed in blue T-shirt and sportswear, the navy personnel and civilians participated in it with enthusiasm after doing warm-ups. With the local bands providing perfect setting by playing some good music, participants were seen achieving their target effortlessly.

Singer Revant hogs the limelight. After a rocking start to the ‘Sounds on Sand’ music festival on Beach Road on Saturday, the concluding day took the tempo to a different level. The crowd started teeming at the venue well ahead of the start of the concert. The venue was jam-packed as music lovers thronged it to watch Indian Idol winner and city boy L.V. Revanth perform for the first time in Visakhapatnam after he won the title in the television reality show. The energy of the venue reached a zenith as Revanth started belting out the hit numbers from the soulful ‘Manohari’ in Baahubali: The Beginning to the ‘Break-up’ song in Arjun Reddy. Sharing the excitement of the crowd that came in large numbers to cheer him, Revanth said, Visakhapatnam holds a special place in my heart. The kind of support and love I have received from this city is unmatchable and I will be ever grateful for that. Later singers Mohammed Irfan and Asees Kaur took the audience on a soulful musical journey marking the end of the two-day musical extravaganza that saw several noted music artistes coming to the city to perform.

Vizag Emerges 9th Richest City Posted on 14-Nov-2017
After the bifurcation of the Telugu states, AP govt. is planning to make Visakhapatnam, the Financial Hub of the state. It seems that the efforts have resulted in Vizag becoming the 9th richest city in the country. Yahoo India has recently conducted a survey to identify the top 10 richest cities in India (GDP (Gross Domestic Product) was taken as a measure) for year 2016, and according to the survey, Visakhapatnam is ranked 9th richest city in India. The city was placed 10th in the country in earlier survey. Vizag has outrun Surat in Gujarat to get the 9th rank in the list of Top 10 richest cities in India. Hyderabad is at 5th place in the list. Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Vizag and Surat are the Top 10 richest cities. Maharashtra and Gujarat are the only states to have two cities each in the list.

Students in colourful attires present cultural programmes. The city schools wore a festive look with scores of students presenting cultural programmes and showcasing their expertise in creative skills to mark Children’s Day. Dressed in colourful attires, they headed for the school in a buoyant mood. Students of Andhra University English Medium School presented enthralling cultural programme to mark the occasion. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao exhorted the students to be responsible citizens. He said periodical health check-up will soon be introduced for students. Delhi Public School, Anandapuram celebrated Bal Diwas with patriotic fervour. For a change, teachers donned the role of students. Principal Eshwari Prabhakar and the staff were present.

The conference will discuss the issues related to the theme ‘Emerging India: Smart City and Smart Communication’. Vice-President M.Venkaiah Naidu here on Wednesday formally launched campaign for the forthcoming 39th all-India Public Relations Conference to be held from Dec. 15 to 17. He released a theme poster of the three-day conference. MP K. Hari Babu and Minister for Agriculture Somireddy Chandra Mohan Reddy were present. National president of Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) Ajit Pathak, vice president – south US Sharma, chairman of Visakhapatnam chapter DVR Murthy, secretary PLK Murthy, and treasurer A Govind Rao, and national committee member BV Vijay Prasad, BR Vikram Kumar, field publicity Officer M. Srinivas Mahesh participated in the poster launch. About 300 delegates representing the corporate sector, academia, industry and government will participate. The conference will discuss the issues related to the theme ‘Emerging India: Smart City and Smart Communication’.
